We understand the stress of starting up a small business and we know the struggle of where to start. Let us help you. The BEST thing you can do for your business is self-promotion, on your car, on your person and talk about it constantly. Remember to hand out business cards and other promotional items to everyone you meet.
START-UP BASICS
We recommend that businesses start-up with four essential marketing items.
1. Business Cards.
A good quantity to start with is 1,000 cards. It may seem like a lot, but if you are doing your job and handing them out to EVERYONE you meet then you’ll go through the cards fast. Don’t just give your acquaintances one card; give them two or three so they can pass them along for you too. Tip: Business cards should be memorable in some way…if you can make them stand out by use of vibrant colors or by adding a coupon to the back, then do it.
2. Vehicle Signs.
You should have at least one sign on your vehicle promoting your business. The best place is on your back window. A sign on either side of your car is helpful too. If you don’t have a sign on your car now, get one. We’ve had several customers tell us of the increase in business just from this simple marketing tool. Tip: Don’t over-complicate your vehicle sign. All you need is your business name, contact information and the major service or product you are marketing. Remember that most people will only see your sign for a few moments.
3. Company Shirts.
Having your company name on your shirt shows that you are a serious company. When you meet with clients, when you purchase supplies, whenever you might have an opportunity to discuss your business, wear them. Have your employees where then around customers too.
4. Website.
We are a computer world now and you must have a website. It can be a basic site that outlines your products and services and a means to contact you, this is the minimum required. There are several companies out there that can help you with this too or if you are good with computers you might be able to create one yourself. Tip: There are three components to a website. The website, the hosting and the domain name. Hosting fees will vary depending upon the company selected, but plan on around $10/month and a domain name will cost around $10/year.
